How do you illuminate a flag at night?
According to the U.S. Flag Code, it is a universal custom to raise the flag at dawn and lower it at dusk. But if you choose to display the American flag at night, it should be properly illuminated.
You can use any type of lighting that you choose. There is nothing in the U.S. Flag Code that states how the American flag needs to be illuminated, just that it needs to be illuminated under darkness. You can choose wall mounted lighting, spot light from the ground or top mount from the top of the flagpole.
Lighting technology is getting better. Ground Mounted Low voltage LED and Solar-powered lighting is usually good for flagpoles under 25' tall. If your flagpole is taller than 25' then we recommend using a lighting fixture that is 120v and that can achieve higher lumens.
